Preliminary Task: Research and Planning

I created a flat plan for both my magazine front cover and my contents page. I did this as a method of planning but to also organise my pages so I had an idea on how to set and lay them out.

Research Analysis:

 I have analysed a magazine front cover and have picked out key connotations and factors. I also assessed it as it was missing some key factors of a magazine. I also analysed a magazine contents page, I specifically looked at the type of content they used to link to the genre of the magazine. I also focused on the layout of the page as a form of inspiration for my own contents page layout.

Images used on my front cover:

The three images below are the images I would potentially used for my magazine cover. I wanted to use this image because I liked how impressive the image was because of the flames. The image represents the wide range of activities the school can offer but also presents how we a safe when doing activities in science. This is shown through the clear precautions taken by the girl because she is wearing goggles, her sleeves are rolled up and she is at a safe distance from the flame. However the reason why I didn't choose this image for my final product is because of the person's expression but also how you cannot clearly see her face. This then takes away any non-verbal communication my cover could have with the target audience.

The second image was also a potential cover image for my school magazine. I liked this image because again it represents the wide range of activities available to the school's students and the aim of my magazine cover was to present this to the audience. The image also displays the talent of the school's students by showing that the school's students can do anything and have an insane amount of talent. However, I decided not to use this image on front cover because I didn't like the type of shot the image had. I specifically wanted an long shot of a student in order to present the school's identity and community.

 
The third image was the image I used in my final product of my school magazine. I especially liked this photo because it was exactly what kind of image I was searching for to use on my magazine. The image perfectly represents the school's identity because the student portrayed is wearing the school's recognisable school P.E. kit. I found this image perfectly fitting because just like the other potential images, it displays the wide range of activities the school offers to its students and as many of the school's equipment is focused on sport, I wanted to show this on my front cover. The students facial expression is clearly displayed and is a very pleasant one. This will tell the audience that the students at the school are genuinely happy and enjoy the range of activities the school offers.

The images above are the logos of social networks. The most recognisable two are Twitter and Facebook. I decided to include these social networks because they are widely known and many people have access to them which would make it easier for my magazine to receive more attention because it will be connecting to my target audience.

I also included the school logo on my magazine, next to my masthead. I included the logo because it is a part of the school's identity therefore showing the target audience that the school takes pride in its identity and community.

From the feed back of my school survey, I was able to get to know my audience better thus allowing me to focus my magazine in a way the benefits and satisfies them.
