Preliminary Task: Final Product

Magazine Cover Evaluation:

This is the first draft of the magazine I have chosen to create. I have chosen the name 'Ilsley News' because although it is quite simplistic, it adds a more professional aspect and feeling to the magazine.

The masthead of my magazine is blue and this is because it compliments the colour scheme of my magazine which is red, white and blue. These three specific colours represent the school as they are featured within the school logo. The school logo is also featured beside the masthead to further develop the school's identity and to represent the pride of the school community. I have deliberately used a bold and underlined masthead in order to allow the text to stand out and although I have used a blue background, I have used a gradient which allows the background to be lighter towards the top of the page and so therefore this allows the masthead to stand out and not blend with the rest of the background.

Featured just below the masthead, I have decided to include a slogan which is also the motto of the school. This further develops the sense of a strong community but also an identity for the school. Also featured above the masthead is the strap-line. The strap-line not only includes a brief summary of what is inside the magazine but also the main and most important articles. The titles of the strap-line are relevant to the things which are happening currently such as 'Back to School Tip'; considering that it is the beginning of a new academic year.

The main image included on my front cover is of a student of the school. The student is wearing the school's recognisable P.E. kit which again supports the school's identity and community. The expression of the student featured on the front cover is very pleasant which will help persuade the audience and will make them assume that the school is also a very pleasant and welcoming place to be.

On the left hand side of my magazine cover, I have included multiple cover-lines which are short pieces of information further revealing what is included in my magazine.

Towards the top-right corner of my magazine cover, I have featured a puff which is used to persuade the audience with free gifts such as stationary. And towards the bottom of my front cover I have included a bar code along with the price of £2.00. I chose this price because I believe it to be the most reasonable for a school magazine.

Magazine Contents Page Evaluation

This is the contents page I have created for magazine. The colour scheme of this page is very similar to the front cover. I have chosen the colours red, blue and black as my house colours, simply because these colours represent the school and are included in the the school logo.

The mast head is again located along the top of the page along with the date and issue number. Beside the mast head, I have included the school logo to represent the school's identity.

I have used a similar layout on the contents page as the front cover, mainly focusing the text around the outskirts of the page and placing the images within the center of the page in order to add more focus on to them. The images I have featured on my contents page are of current student who are attending the school. Each student is engaging in a different activity such as science or sport which gives the target audience an insight on the wide variety of activities the school offers to its students. This is also a representation of the school's identity and community considering the fact that each student is wearing the school's recognisable uniform and P.E. kit.

The contents of my contents page have been separated in to four different categories. I have done this in order to make the information feature more clear to my target audience, therefore allowing them to find what they need in a clear and simplistic way. I have ensured that my content is specific and relates to my target audience of students. I have done this by including subjects and topics which relate to the target audience such as managing, studying and methods to help improve their school lives.

Towards the bottom of the contents page I have included a puff. The pug also links to the relationship I intend to build with my magazine's target audience by offering free stationary which they will find useful.
